our story

UMAR | WSR IS NO ORDINARY COMPANY; FOR US, THE MARITIME INDUSTRY IS LIFE ITSELF. AGAINST THE CONVENTIONS OF THE BUSINESS WE SEEK TO FIND A BETTER APPROACH. THROUGH THE METAPHOR OF THE GRAY WHALE, WE BELIEVE THAT IF PEOPLE FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS THEY CAN CELEBRATE THEIR VERY EXISTENCE

Out in the depths of the Ocean, a young Gray whale, alone and beyond his pods protection was practising his swimming techniques. As he dived to the deepest fathoms of the ocean the oxygen in his lungs diminished, but this Gray, pushed on even deeper, trembling with fear, he reached the sea bed. This young Gray was no ordinary whale. For most Grays it's not about swimming but finding food. But more than anything else our Gray loved to swim. His pod could not understand why he was so different. "Why don't you just eat with everyone else?"

With the onset of winter, our Gray's great migration was now underway. The 10,000 mile round trip was the longest any mammal on the planet had to make and our Gray, although exhausted was loving every second of the marathon journey.

One evening however, there was an eerie feeling; strange sounds filled the water with noises our Gray had never heard before. And then suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, our Gray saw them. Orcas! As they encircled the pod, the other calves dived for protection. In an effort to protect their family, the mothers dived haphazardly. It was not long before the orcas moved in and one mother and her calf were separated from the rest of the pod. Alone and helpless, their chances diminished with every passing second.

Our Gray decided to make a difference. He took the biggest breath at the surface and dived deeper than ever before. Turning towards the surface, he targeted the biggest of the Orcas and swam straight towards him. His only target was the Orca.

In an instant, collision! The Gray collided with the biggest Orca and with a swish of his powerful tail, lifted the orca straight out of the ocean. With the Orcas now gone, the pod grouped once again and the story of our Gray spread throughout the ocean and became legendary.
Our Gray had learnt that the effort to be like everyone else leads to boredom, fear and anger and these are the reasons that a whale's life is so stressful. Without these elements in mind, he lived a long and fine life indeed.
