The week beginning June 18th saw four large, 3,700 m3 dwt hopper barges, built between 2005 and 2012 and owned by Belgium’s Jan de Nul, undergoing repair simultaneously at Denmark’s FAYARD in Munkebo - L’Agile, Marquis de Prie, Boussole and L’Etoile.
Also undergoing repair at this yard at the same time were the following:
• Neste – 25,117 dwt 2005-built chemical tanker, owned by Finland’s Neste Oil.
• Finlandia Seaways – 11,530 gt 2000-built freight ro/ro, owned by Denmark’s DFDS, undergoing major fire damage repairs to her engine room.
Recently, FAYARD has installed scrubbers in five vessels and have therefore reached a total of 31 installed scrubbers and six SCRs. All projects are made in close co-operation with the shipowner respective the makers of the systems where the owner, in each case, is letting the respective maker and FAYARD team up as the ‘Turnkey Contractor’ together. Currently, the yard is working on a scrubber installation on-board a chemical/products tanker.
Meanwhile, when owners are preparing for upcoming BWM system installations, the lead time from ordering of the BWM system at the maker to the installation date is often a challenge for more owners. Also the time at the yard for installation is stressing for high efficiency.
Therefore, FAYARD has, together with Techcon Aps provided a containerised ATEX/IMO/USCG approved solution allowing the owners to purchase BWM systems from the makers and delivered to FAYARD thus knowing that the containerised solution ready for shipment at FAYARD can be installed at any location decided by the owner. Norway’s Hafnia Tankers has successfully installed the first containers and the step wise approach has proven its worth. The equipment was installed on-board the 52,385 dwt chemical tanker Hafnia Libra.
Also recently, FAYARD has had one more project regarding Energy Storage System (ESS) in terms of a battery package allowing the vessel to operate the auxiliary engines at the energy efficient operational profile and either charging the batteries with power, or delivering power from the batteries, subject to the DP2 operational requirement. The Project was made in close co-operation with the owner’s choice of maker of the system.
